Hi all,
We all waited with baited breath for the announcements on Sunday and many of us are now even more nervous and confused about how our lives will be changing in what could be the near future.
These are such uncertain times and will no doubt raise many questions. For parents, we may have some huge changes to consider and decisions to make. Catherine and I have always worked with the belief that, as parents, whatever decision we make for our own children will be the right one for us and nothing is set in stone.
As human beings, we crave security. We want to feel safe and have a sense of control over our lives and wellbeing. Fear and uncertainty can leave us feeling stressed and anxious. Whilst we can control many things we cannot control everything, something we are all experiencing at this time. When circumstances are out of our control it is easy to let fear overwhelm us so it is essential that we try to focus on what we know and trust in our instinct as parents.
For many of us, the novelty of home learning has faded and it is becoming increasingly challenging to inspire our children to work. Many of our children are also desperate to return to school and their friends and so behaviour is often quite challenging.
As of today, the government guidelines are just that, guidelines. The plans to integrate our children back into school are being discussed and worked on by Headteachers around the country. Our best advice would be to wait for your own school to layout its plans and ideas and at that point decisions can be made.
For some of us this will be a relief that some structure will return to our lives but, for others this may be a source of anxiety and concern. Our message remains the same for all of our families. Wait until you know more about your school’s plan, think about how this may affect you and your child and at that point you will be in a position to make your own informed decision. As hard it may be, for now it is important not to let the fear and uncertainty consume you.
Catherine and I are now busily re-planning and adapting some of our popular Summer courses to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our pupils. We will be offering more dates in order to make certain that all the groups are small and social distancing measures are maintained. We will be outlining some of the options next week but please do get in touch with us if there is something specific you would be interested in us covering. You can email us via our website Emparenting. As always our courses will be bespoke.
Remember to practise being kind, gentle and compassionate to yourself and each other!
Keep well and safe.
Love
Lisa and Catherine
